Catshark neon is run by myself Jon Astles, and is located in newton Stewart, scotland.
I began working with neon almost two decades ago.
After gaining my degree in product design i spent a few years working in architectural lighting Producing lighting schemes for a number of high end projects. then a few years doing fine joinery and furniture design, working with a range of woods and other materials.
following this i moved back to neon, working for over a decade at the largest neon sign company in the UK - A1designs.
At A1designs I worked on jobs for a wide range of clients, from movie sets to youtube, from coca cola to Jägermeister, from theaters in london to art galleries in new york.
in 2026 I took the plunge and looked to open my own workshop.
I've always had a love of lighting, being dubbed the 'mothman' at university because of my habit of inspecting the lighting in any new space!

extensive site experience, whether that be in museums, hospitality, or private homes.
welding, acrylic boxes, carpentry
working with plastic, wood, and metal. from welded frames for neon to custom one-off furniture.
repair
Knowledge of historic and current colour ranges allows me to colour match most older tubes. however tubes can change colour over time, so an exact match might not be possible.
